The Council of Christians and Jews WA Inc. (CCJWA) was inaugurated in 1995 as a non-profit organisation with its own Constitution (amended 2009).  CCJWA forms the Western Australian chapter of the Australian Council of Christians and Jews which was first launched in Victoria in 1985.

The original Council of Christians and Jews was established in Britain in 1942 as a means of addressing the ghastliness of Nazi anti-semitism. The Council is now an international body, the International Council of Christians and Jews, with the centre of this network located in Germany.

CCJWA is endorsed by five religious communities and the religious leaders of those communities, as detailed below, are joint and active presidents of the organisation:

• The Rabbi, Perth Hebrew Congregation

• The Rabbi Temple David Congregation

• The Anglican Archbishop of Perth

• The Catholic Archbishop of Perth

• The Moderator, Synod of Western Australia, Uniting Church in Australia

The Council is not a missionary organisation; neither is it a political organisation. The purpose of the Council is to promote religious openness leading to a deeper understanding and mutual respect for the beliefs and practices of both Jews and Christians and to promote reconciliation, relationship and cooperation through dialogue, education, research and communication.

The Council's objectives are extremely relevant to life in contemporary Australia, particularly now that anti-semitism is again on the rise in our modern world, and where religious tolerance is a necessary fundamental value in our multicultural society.

The symbols of the CCJWA logo which represent the two groups, Christians and Jews, serve as a reminder of the terrible suffering inflicted on the Jewish people and that it is imperative to work together to prevent it from ever being repeated.
